We've had a lot of great
press recently; both cottages have been selected in Alistair
Sawday's Special Escapes collection of rental properties and last
week we were listed as one of the Top Ten Sustainable Places to stay
in the UK during the Olympics (www.gouk.com).
Next month we feature in both Country Living Magazine and The Cotswold Lion
Newspaper. Why not visit and check us out for yourself.
Shilton and Southrop villages
are both hidden gems; Kate Moss was recently married at Southrop church and
Shilton's ford was recently turned into a film set when the Downton Abbey
crew came to film for the forthcoming series.
If you want to know more about our cottages
take a look at the websites - we have recently added Virtual Tours of Culls
Cottage and lots more photographs.
We hope we have the opportunity to welcome
you to our glorious area soon.

Dear Friends of The Chestnuts
and Culls Cottage (sent December 2010)
It has been a fabulous year for
our cottages, with many awards and accolades for The Chestnuts and Culls
Cottage. We are particularly thrilled to have received the Gold trophy for
our sustainable efforts at The Beautiful South Awards in the Autumn and we
look forward to representing the South East of England in the National
awards in April.
2011 looks like another
exciting year for both cottages. We recently planted many trees and shrubs
in the newly renovated garden at Culls and there are plans to renovate the
listed 17th Century pig sty's in the Culls Cottage garden. We won't be
keeping any live pigs but we thought we would buy a pig this year and some
other farmyard friends instead of sending Christmas cards. The 'Alive and
kicking Package' - a duck, a goat and a piglet, will provide a family with a
range of income generating opportunities in a developing country. The gift
supports the agricultural and environmental work of World Vision (www.worldvision.com.au
) to help communities grow food for families to restore and improve their
environments.
Winter is a magical time to
visit The Costwolds, make a snow man, take a brisk walk or just relax in our
snug cottages. We would love to see you in 2011.
Have a fabulous Christmas and
all the very best for the coming year
With kindest regards
Chris, Linda and Louise.
Dear Friends of The
Chestnuts and Culls Cottage (Sent
22nd November 2010)
We are delighted to announce that The Chestnuts
was awarded the trophy in the Sustainable Tourism Category
at The Beautiful South Awards. We are thrilled to move
forward into the national finals in April.
The award recognises the work that The
Chestnuts implements behind the scenes to ensure that your holiday has as
little environmental impact as possible and positively enhances the wider
community and the Cotswolds environment.
To really cap off the awards evening Chris was
also presented with a Highly Commended Award for The
Chestnuts in recognition of its Outstanding Quality in the Self
Catering Accommodation category. Truly a great night for The
Chestnuts' team.
In late October, The Chestnuts held its
Autumn Art and Gift Fair, raising over £350 for charity. More than 150
people visited the event over three days, to see original art works by owner
Chris Burton, glass artist Mike Mullaney, Oxford Artist Jo Chance and to
sample the delights of Bliss Spa's organic beauty product range and Lahloo
teas. Our next fair is scheduled for May 2011 as part of the Oxfordshire Art
Weeks.
Winter Deals at The Chestnuts and Culls
Cottage
Winter is a fabulous time to visit our cosy
cottages. Both have open fires, under floor heating, snuggly fur throws that
make them delicious places to relax, unwind and watch a DVD or go for a
invigorating walk to other gorgeous villages nearby. If you don't want to
venture far, try the Rose and Crown Inn at Shilton, just a few yards away
from The Chestnuts (featured in Alistair Sawdays Special Places to Eat and
Drink) and The Swan (awarded 'Which?' Good Food Guide's
Restaurant of the Year) at Southrop, just a couple of
minutes walk from Culls Cottage.
With every booking made for this period
(December to February) we are offering a complimentary
bottle of Champagne, a pure Bliss Aromatherapy soy candle to keep the winter
blues away and a Lahloo tea filled heart for you to take home (just
mention this mailing on your booking enquiry).
Enjoy a three night weekend stay at The
Chestnuts from £698 and Culls Cottage from £598 or how about staying for
four nights midweek at either cottage for £498. The Chestnuts sleeps up to
ten guests and Culls Cottage up to eight guests. Making a stay at The
Chestnuts possible for as little as £12.45 pppn for a midweek stay
(This offer excludes any bank holiday and celebration
weekends such as Valentines weekend).
Have a great run up to Christmas and we look
forward to welcoming you to our wonderful part of the world soon.
Kindest regards

Culls Cottage
Dear Friends of The Chestnuts and Culls
Cottage (Sent
6th August 2010)
The Summer has got off to a
fabulous start for us with our cottages featured in the July issue of
Limited Editions magazine. And, both The Chestnuts and Culls Cottage
awarded Gold by the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
"First
impressions on walking into Chris Burton's stunning holiday cottages are of
how beautiful, light and airy they are. As soon as you step inside you are
enveloped in a cocoon of Zen-like tranquility."
If you've stayed with us we
hope this is exactly how you felt. For those who haven't, then maybe you
should consider staying in our calming world.
We still have some availability
at both The Chestnuts and Culls Cottage throughout the summer and the
occasional late availability web specials.
Affordable Luxury:
Although The Chestnuts sleeps
up to ten and Culls Cottage sleeps up to eight, our midweek four nights for
the price of three at just £698 make a little slice of luxury very
affordable. Also unlike most holiday cottages we continue to take weekend
bookings as well as weekly rentals throughout the summer months.
Green Business is Golden:
At the end of June we were
thrilled to be awarded Gold from the Green Tourism Business Scheme which
recognises excellence after auditing the many facets that make up our
business and our green efforts. You can be assured that your visit to our
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty does not impact heavily on the very
beauty that attracts you.
Lahloo Teas at
The Chestnuts and Culls. A journey through your senses:
Those of you who have
visited The Chestnuts or Culls know that we leave some tea and coffee. Our
teas are supplied by specialist tea importer Kate Glover who runs Lahloo
Tea. Kate's Earl Grey and Black Loose Leaf Tea have just won Great Taste
Gold. Kate has kindly offered a 20% discount for orders
placed before the end of August. Simply enter 'ilovelahlootea'. Lahloo teas
can be found at
www.lahlootea.co.uk
I wish you a wonderful summer
and we look forward to welcoming you to our "Zen-like tranquility" soon.
Kindest regards
Chris
Dear Friends of The
Chestnuts and Culls Cottage
(sent 17th June 2010)
It's official: Culls
Cottage wins Four Stars and Gold for Excellence in Service and Quality
We are delighted that Enjoy
England has awarded our new property, Culls Cottage, their Four Star rating
as well as the coveted Gold for Excellence in Service and Quality. The
awards come after an exhaustive audit of the 17th century cottage which we
have restored and brought back to life. Those of you who know and love
The Chestnuts will immediately recognise the same loving attention to detail
and style at Culls.
Not only, but also...The
Chestnuts has retained its Four Star rating and Its Gold Award for
Excellence and Service. May was a pleasing month for us all and we took the
opportunity to celebrate at the opening of our annual Art Fair.
We are very grateful to all
those who visited and as a result we raised £364 for our three charities,
Shilton Baptist Chapel restoration fund, SANE and The Barn Owl Trust.
Watch this space for further
details of our October Art and Chic Gift Fair (29th to 31st) which will have
a distinctly Christmas feel to it.
We still have some availability
during the summer period particularly at Culls Cottage and don't forget our
great midweek four nights for the price of three offer that we run for most
of the year in both cottages. Shilton village is lucky to have the Rose and
Crown Inn which is in Alistair Sawday's Special Place to Eat and Drink and
Southrop is a wonderful village with an award winning pub/restaurant - The
Swan. Both unspoilt idyls have walks and cycling routes a plenty and if you
want to stay put both cottages have shady gardens with lots of outdoor
seating and BBQ.
Have a wonderful summer.
All the best Chris, Linda and
Louise
