Culls Cottage was built in approximately 1670 in the village of Southrop, Gloucestershire, just ten minutes drive from The Chestnuts, Shilton, seven miles south of Burford and three miles north of Lechlade.
Throughout 2009 we lavished tender loving care on this grade two listed property and it is now available for you to enjoy.
The cottage comprises a lounge (with double sofa bed), separate dining room, kitchen, a downstairs double bedroom and 'wet room' shower and toilet. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms, a spacious hallway and a luxury spa style bathroom with double ended bath.
Like The Chestnuts, Culls comes with all the luxury and indulgence you would expect, widescreen TV's in the lounge and master bedroom, DVD and CD player, free wireless internet. The kitchen is fully equipped for the keen chef with global knives, professional saucepans, Riedal wine glasses and the essential espresso coffee machine. It has a fridge, freezer, full size dishwasher and washing machine.
The Bedrooms are cosy and inviting with goose down duvets and white cotton linen. Central heating warms the upper floor whilst downstairs there is under floor heating throughout and also an inglenook fireplace in the lounge with wood burner.
The house is decorated throughout with natural fabrics and original art pieces. In the restoration of this house we have used only local craftsman and natural materials. From limestone flag flooring to oak doors, we have endeavoured with every addition or restoration to bring a very old cottage back to life.
The garden was very overgrown when we took it on and little could be saved in the 1/4 acre plot but it has now been landscaped by Chelsea Flower Show, award winning gardeners, from Newington Nurseries and is now cared for by RHS trained Nikki who specialises in bringing gardens back to life and integrating them with the house (www.therestorationgardener). This large garden has now started to come into its own with continued new plantings. The large willow which dominated the garden and is the focal point of the garden has been carefully pollarded so that its new growth provides welcome shade during the heat of the summer and the flower meadow that gets planted below it every spring attracts butterflies and bees.
Southrop village like Shilton is another small unspoilt Cotswold village with an excellent gastropub The Swan and there is a community run village shop, which opens every Wednesday morning. Extensive shopping is available nearby however in nearby Burford, Fairford and Lechlade.
